James Gunn doesn’t rule out a Marvel and DC crossover

Could we potentially see a movie featuring both DC and Marvel characters some day? DC Studios co-chair James Gunn isn’t ruling it out.

James Gunn is in a very unique position at the moment. Despite having become co-chair of DC Studios in Oct. 2022, he still has one project left at Marvel Studios to finish up, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With the film now mere weeks away from release, he is out on the promotional circuit for the film, and that’s leading to all sorts of interesting questions.

A fan-favorite event over the decades has been Marvel Comics and DC doing event crossovers. Fans have asked over the years if it could ever possibly happen in films. No one has ever really addressed it in any serious answer before now.

Speaking with Empire, the topic of Marvel and DC ever crossing over in films came up. “I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” said Gunn. “Who knows? That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first.” But he still offered some hope, saying, “I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

Could we some day see Spider-Man swinging through Metropolis while Superman flies by his side? We’ll just have to wait and see. We do agree with Gunn, however, that this is definitely quite a few years away from becoming a reality.
