Netflix has ordered a third and final season of Sweet Tooth with a small twist: It’s already been filmed.
Less than a month since the season 2 debut of Sweet Tooth, Netflix has gone ahead and given an order for a third season which will serve as the end of the series.
As we said in our season 2 review, it was obvious a third season was needed, but we’re glad to hear it will be the last. Not because we dislike it, but because you can only carry on stories such as this for so long before it turns far too much into padding the story. Three seasons feels like the perfect length for this particular series.
“In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life,” said creator, showrunner and executive producer Jim Mickle of the news. “At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be. The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going.”
Mickle went on to add, “Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in Season 1 or 2.”
No word on a potential release date for season 3 as of yet.
