Gotham can’t survive without a Batman, it turns out. The CW has canceled the Batman-inspired series, according to a report from TV Line. The season finale, now the series finale, airs later this month on June 27.

Gotham Knights follows Turner Hayes, the adopted son of Bruce Wayne, who has been framed alongside three thieves for Wayne’s murder and the revelation that he is, in fact, Batman. The series stars Oscar Morgan as Hayes, Misha Collins as District Attorney Harvey Dent, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Doe/Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley/Robin, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, and Tyler DiChiara and Fallon Smythe as Cullen and Harper Row.

The series was a tall order from right from the concept, which asks viewers to accept a version of Gotham City where Batman is dead, and then framed it through the eyes of an original character. Despite that, Gotham Knights dug into some deep Gotham lore, especially with the Court of Owls secret society. The series even started getting into weirder elements like the seemingly magical Electrum metal that can imbue near-immortality on someone with just a few particles in their blood. It has also made an interesting case for itself as an Elseworlds-style Gotham, pitting Carrie Kelley against the Mutants gang–both of which originated in Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns graphic novel.

Interestingly, the show premiered just months after the completely unrelated Gotham Knights video game, which similarly took place in a post-Batman Gotham and struggled to find footing with fans of the Caped Crusader.

The most recent episode had Turner trying to accept the news that Batman may have been responsible for his parents’ deaths, while Stephanie (who becomes Spoiler and later Batgirl in the comics) confronts her parents about her mother’s drug abuse. We also got confirmation that Duela is, in fact, the daughter of Harvey Dent, not the Joker. Two more episodes of Gotham Knights remain and will air on June 20 and 27.
