Upcoming Comics April 16, 2024

Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! I just got done binge-watching the Fallout show, and boy I have some mixed opinions. I thought it got off to a pretty rough start with plot/worldbuilding logic that didn’t make much sense and humor that relied far too much on fanservice references. However, as the show went on it definitely started to grow on me. A lot of that was due to it focusing more on Walton Goggins’ character, who is fantastic in every scene he’s in. Lucy, the main character, also improved a lot and the jokes even got better (thanks in part to some cameos from great comedic actors). I still have my issues with the show like its handling of the whole Brotherhood plotline, and of course that reveal about the NCR brings me the opposite of joy, but overall I came away liking it.

Anyways, that’s my totally unrelated rant. Back to comics:

Upcoming Comics

Nightwing #113

Since the 1940’s, you’ve seen him go from acrobat to orphan; from Dick Grayson to Robin; from Robin to Nightwing. You’ve seen him work alongside the universe’s most powerful heroes, against existence’s most sinister villains. You have seen Dick Grayson do so many things, but now, in his 300th issue, you will see him…well, you’ll just have to pick up the issue and find out. Join us for this legacy 300 milestone!

Thoughts: It feels like cheating to do big milestone issues for both the legacy numbering and the new numbering, right?

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #26

Beware the power of the DOOM-MITE! Following the imp-shattering events of the Batman/Superman: World’s Finest 2024 Annual and #25, it’s up to Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite to convince Batman and Superman that they’re for real this time! If this dynamic duo of odd couples can’t work together, then our entire dimension is in jeopardy!

Thoughts: The preview at the end of the last issue has me really excited for Waid’s take on the Mites

Titans #10

The Titans are committed to helping humanity, whether humanity believes in them or not. The team is fighting on several fronts, but they refuse to back down. They refuse to buckle under overwhelming pressure. But are the Titans being manipulated? Are they on the wrong side of a conflict that could consume the world?

  • Cover By: Chris Samnee, Mat Lopes

Thoughts: I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: the Titans only seem to have like three stories that they tell anymore

Catwoman #64

“Nine Lives” enters its sixth chapter! Selina has carried out almost every lethal heist on the face of the earth, so now it’s time to head to space! In a universe full of interplanetary heroes and villains, secrets get left behind in strange places, and one in particular has caught the Catwoman’s eye. As she approaches a familiar, yet abandoned station, she might want to watch her back—for she’s not the only one walking among the stars!

Thoughts: That cat-themed space suit is hilarious and I also love it.

Beyond the Bat

Welcome to Beyond the Bat, where we take a quick look at the rest of DC’s comics coming out this week.

Graphic Novel Watch

Sometimes you need more than floppies. Sometimes you want something that can sit nicely on your shelf that proudly displays your favorite stories. That’s when you turn to graphic novels. Let’s see what bat collections are coming out this week:

Ratings

Most Excited: Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #26– While I didn’t love the Joker/Lex issue, this looks to be getting right back on track for what the series does best: crazy pre-crisis adventures

Least Excited: Batman: Off-World #4– The big delay killed a lot of what little enthusiasm I had for this title, which was already waning.

Wild Card: Nightwing #113– I’ve gotten tired of Taylor’s Nightwing, but maybe a good one-shot could be just what the doctor ordered. Plus it will be cool seeing Marv Wolfman return to the character.

Well that’s it for this week! Let us know in the comments what comics you’re looking forward to.
