Upcoming Comics: June 20th, 2012

This week: Batman Beyond history gets rewritten (that didn’t take long, did it?), Catwoman & Spark take their relationship to the next level, and we finally get some plot progression on Nightwing’s stolen eskrima stick!

Here’s a list of all the Batman comics coming out this week, June 20th, graded on a scale of my own anticipation.

None.  –   I’ll get to it…eventually   –   Eh…meh.  –  Bring it.  –  TAKE MY MONEY

Anticipation Level:  Eh…meh.

Like always it’s 3 stories for $4 bucks– not bad in today’s market. But as usual, expect another entertaining Superman Beyond and Justice League story and get ready to be disappointed greatly by the Batman Beyond offering. This issue will feature Lex Luthor’s daughter, the conclusion of Warhawks origin with plenty of cameos by the original Justice League, and Adam Beechen re-writes some MAJOR Batman Beyond history with a tale about one of the guards in Mr. Fix’s crew back before Terry ever became the bat.

BATWOMAN #10

Written by J.H. WILLIAMS III and W. HADEN BLACKMAN

Art by TREVOR McCARTHY

Cover by J.H. WILLIAMS III

1:25 B&W Variant cover by J.H. WILLIAMS III

32 pg

$2.99

Anticipation Level:  None.

More of the same terrible narrative, 6-eyed Killer Croc is supposed to cause some trouble, and we learn more about the main villain that this “Drown the World” saga has been leading up to. It’s a lot of style over substance and I haven’t liked this arc at all. Until I do enjoy an issue again, I won’t be reviewing this series anymore.

CATWOMAN #10

Written by JUDD WINICK

Art and cover by GUILLEM MARCH

32 pg

$2.99

Anticipation Level:  Bring it.

The New 52 gets its 2nd Doll-themed villain with “Dollhouse – a psychotic who kidnaps children from the streets of Gotham City”. I’m assuming this is the big fella who’s been abducting prostitutes. Also, the solicits for this issue allude to Catwoman and her electric-powered partner taking their relationship to the next level. I honestly couldn’t care less about this guy Spark or his relationship with Catwoman, but I’m curious to see what Dollhouse looks like without the cloak and what she (yeah, it’s a woman apparently) is planning.

NIGHTWING #10

Written by KYLE HIGGINS

Art by EDDY BARROWS, PAULO SIQUERIA and EBER FERREIRA

Cover by EDDY BARROWS

32 pg

$2.99

Anticipation Level:   Bring it.

The eskrima stick at the scene of a crime storyline finally gains some traction in part one of “THE REPUBLIC OF TOMORROW, TODAY.” which features a new villain named Paragon. “Nightwing” is currently operating on all cylinders, folks. This book has been knocking it out of the park for like 3 or 4 months straight now so I’m excited to see what this new saga has in store for us.
