April 2015 Solicitations

Well, well, well… Convergence is coming! If I’m being honest, I have mixed emotions about the whole event.  I just get cautious with big events. That being said, I’m really excited to revisit some of these Pre New 52 characters! There’s definitely a lot to get excited about: Question, Cassandra Cain, Nightwing, Oracle, Azrael… It makes me giddy!…. Yes, I said “giddy.” I’m a twenty-six year old man, and I said, “giddy.” I started to delete it, but I have no shame. None at all… Ok, maybe a little.

Anyway, before we jump on this Convergence train for the next two months, we have to tie up some of the current plots. We’re being treated to some annuals, and we’ll see the close of our three weekly titles: Batman Eternal, Futures End, and World’s End – with the latter two leading directly into Convergence. Convergence will then kick off with weekly, extended issues, and be accompanied by a number of two-part tie-ins. I’m curious to see how dependent some of these titles are of one another considering their solicitations. Overall, I’m expecting it to be an interesting month, and hoping for a few, nice surprises along the way.

Alright, if you’re still with me, below you’ll find the solicitations for each issue, as well as the cover art (if DC has released it). You’ll notice that I changed up the format a little to list each title based on its release date. If I’m being completely honest, I’m mainly doing this to help me identify books that have been pulled forward or pushed back when I’m writing the Upcoming Comics posts. As a reminder, I’m not putting the talent credits in this post because there’s already a ton of information here. But you know me… I can’t post anything without adding my two cents, so you’ll see some of my randomness for a few titles. Make sure you give me a piece of your mind in the comments as well! I want to hear what you’re excited about, worried about, your predictions, etc… If you have something to say, I want to know!

Convergence 0
Convergence #0
The Earthquakes felt round the Multiverse, Superman’s lost days after “Doomed,” the World’s End – all these points will converge as the history of the DCU is spun from a new perspective, the perspective of a mad god and his arrogant child. The biggest story in DC history ties into literally every DC story ever told – and it all begins here.

Kingdom Come, Red Son, Wild West Justice League, Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew – all the worlds you remember can still be found on Telos. Everything matters. Every story matters.

Don’t miss the start of DC’s April/May 2015 event with this special issue!

I don’t know whether I should pee my pants from excitement, or hide in a corner out of fear! I’m crossing my fingers that this isn’t one big cluster *cough*

Futures End 48
Futures End #48
“EYE AM YOUR FUTURE!”

Oh Brother… Get it?… Yeah, I know… bad joke.

Multiversity 2
The Multiversity #2
Every event in the history of the DC Universe has been leading to this! The final chapter of the greatest adventure of all time is here!

Hmmm… If only we could’ve gotten a #2 for some of the other Multiversity titles…This will also tie into Convergence as far as I can tell.

Earth 2 World’s End #26
Darkseid wins. All hail Darkseid!

I bet Darkseid wins…

New Teen Titans Annual 1
Teen Titans Annual #1
The Titans deal with Superboy’s return to the team – and the trail of destruction that he’s left in his wake.

The amount of power that will be on this team is UNREAL! Superboy, Wondergirl, Powergirl… I feel like they’d give the Justice League a run for their money! Also, I love this cover.

Batman Eternal #52
This month in BATMAN ETERNAL: The epic Bat-story over a year in the making comes to a stunning end! Gotham City is in flames! Villains are running wild in the streets! Bat-tech has been corrupted! And the mastermind behind it all has put a knife in Batman’s ribs! How will the Dark Knight put an end to this nightmare…and how will it shape the face of Gotham City to come?

I thought I would be sad to see Eternal go, but now I’m kind of ready for it to just wrap up. I still think jumping all of the Bat titles forward to pick up after Eternal back in October was a big mistake. It’s taken away so much mystery and suspense from this book. Hopefully this is one amazing issue. I really don’t want this title to end on a low note. There have been too many amazing moments for that to happen.

Batman Superman Annual 2
Batman/ Superman Annual #2
Superman and Batman have defeated the menace that was targeting the Man of Steel for months, but not before he set something deadly in motion – their greatest foes have been given the means to kill Clark Kent. And for Clark, time is running out.

I really need to add this title back to my rotation… And this is another amazing cover!

Batman and Robin Annual 3
Batman & Robin Annual #3
After a year that included death, resurrection and battles with the forces of Apokolips, it’s time for Batman and Robin to get back to basics both as father and son and partners in crimefighting. But have the events of the past year left too great a rift for them to bounce back from?

I can’t describe how much I loved the January issue of this book! It was so nice to see this relationship again, and really filled an emotional aspect that’s been missing from this title for a while now. I love the dynamic between Damian and Bruce, and that alone is honestly what makes this book so good.

Batwoman Annual 2
Batwoman Annual #2
How did Batwoman find herself in space fighting Morgan Le Fey? How did she find herself accompanied by allies as strange as Clayface, Ragman, Etrigan the Demon and her own sinister sister Red Alice?! All the answers are here in the final chapter of the Unknowns saga!

Dear DC… please do not send Batwoman to space again… It’s a terrible idea. Terrible.

Convergence 1
Convergence #1
This is it! The entire DC Universe, from the dawn of time through The New 52, must fight to survive against a threat that bends the Multiverse to its will. Your favorite characters from every era and every forgotten series are all here! But are you going to say hello again just to say goodbye forever? The stakes have never been higher as the heroes of Crisis, Zero Hour, Elseworlds, and more are brought together for Convergence!

Convergence Batgirl 1
Convergence: Batgirl #1
STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! After a year living under the confinement of the dome, Stephanie Brown isn’t sure she wants to be Batgirl again. But when she’s attacked by Catman and Gorilla Grodd from the world of Flashpoint, she’s forced to put on the cape and cowl to fight alongside Red Robin and Cassandra Cain!

I can’t wait for this issue! Cassandra Cain people! Cassandra freaking Cain! And Red Robin when he was freaking awesome instead of misguided and misinterpreted! And for you Stephanie fans, she’s Batgirl again! And Catman! There’s too much good stuff!

Convergence Batman and Robin 1
Convergence: Batman & Robin #1
STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! Being trapped in a domed city makes for a tense, inescapable family reunion as Batman struggles to keep the friction between Damian Wayne and Jason Todd from exploding!

So… Is this Dick or Bruce as Batman? I hope its Dick. I loved Morrison’s run with Dick and Damian as the dynamic duo, and miss seeing those two together. Regardless, I’m looking forward to this.

Convergence Harley Quinn 1
Convergence: Harley Quinn #1
STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! Life for Harley Quinn has become downright normal over the last year. Will she be ready to go nuts when Catwoman and Poison Ivy draft her to fight – Captain Carrot?!

Harley? Normal? Why? Who wants that? I’m kidding… kind of. I am glad to see a Gotham City Sirens reunion though. I’m also curious to see how Captain Carrot is worked into this story. That’s the only big question mark I have for this title.

Convergence Justice League 1
Convergence: Justice League #1
STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! The Justice League story you never expected to see begins when Supergirl, Zatanna, Vixen and Jade attend Jesse Quick’s baby shower, which quickly turns into a life-and-death struggle with Flashpoint Aquaman!

I’m not sure if Batman is in this… I guess we’ll find out.

Convergence Nightwing Oracle 1
Convergence: Nightwing/ Oracle #1
STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! Just as they’ve finally been reunited, the romance between Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon is sentenced to execution by Flashpoint Hawkman and Hawkwoman!

I… can’t…. wait… I love Nightwing. I miss Oracle. And this is one of those titles that’s making me wonder how connected all of these tie-ins will be with one another. There’s a Hawkman and Harkwoman title, and they come to Gotham in that title… I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Convergence Question 1
Convergence: The Question #1
STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! Two-Face is fighting another world’s Harvey Dent, and it’s up to Renee Montoya as The Question to help him beat the odds.

Other than Batgirl, this is probably my second most anticipated Convergence tie-in! I’ve missed Renee, and I’m sure I’m not the only one!

Batman Arkham Knight 2
Batman: Arkham Knight #2
Shipping twice in April! In issue 2, will the Clown Prince of Crime have the last laugh from inside the grave? Find out when Harley Quinn is Batman’s only hope to save Commissioner Gordon from The Joker’s Last Will and Testament!

Thanks to the incredible quality of storytelling that we’ve received from Injustice, I can’t help but hope for the best with this title. I always love when books turn out to be surprisingly good.

April 15th

Convergence #2
As Telos, the Planet Incarnate, easily defeats the survivors of Earth 2, Thomas Wayne and Dick Grayson set off to find help in the pre-Flashpoint Gotham City. The emotional implication of these worlds colliding comes crashing down when Thomas Wayne confronts this world’s Batman, as father meets son!

Convergence Shadow of the Bat 1
Convergence: Batman: Shadow of the Batman #1
STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! Fresh out of recovery from a broken back, Bruce Wayne infiltrates the organized crime underworld, but the outlaw sent to test his mettle is none other than Azrael!

This could be AWESOME!!! It’s taking place during such a crucial time in Batman’s history, that I genuinely hope the creative team makes the most of this!

Convergence Catwoman 1
Convergence: Catwoman #1
STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! A year under the dome can change anyone – even Catwoman. She’s set aside her life of crime to become the protector of Suicide Slum, but when the dome falls she will face her greatest challenge: Kingdom Come Batman!

I have a confession… I’ve never read Kingdom Come… If you need to take away some of my nerd cred, I’m ok with that. It is on my read list, I just haven’t gotten to it yet. That being said, I don’t know whether I should or shouldn’t be excited about Kingdom Come Batman… So help me out. How excited should I be?

Convergence Suicide Squad 1
Convergence: Suicide Squad #1
STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! When Kingdom Come’s floating fortress of New Oa threatens Metropolis, it’s up to Amanda Waller to assemble a team of Metropolis’s deadliest villains to stop it.

How kick ass is this team? I mean, look at those villains! Look at them!!! This better be good!

Infinite Crisis 10
Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse #10
An armored Lex Luthor from the Gaslight world holds his own against Batman and Superman from Earth Prime. What will happen when Gaslight Hawkgirl enters the fray? Meanwhile, two other heroes wage a desperate struggle against the deadly, robotic Mecha Deathstroke.

Teen Titans Go 9
Teen Titans Go! #9
It’s Titan vs. Titan in a no-holds-barred, winner-take-all…staring contest! In the end, it’s Robin vs. Raven with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Which will turn the tide: Robin’s focused glare, whose intensity can rip through to the deepest core of a man’s soul…or Raven’s just not caring?

April 22nd

Convergence #3
Death comes calling as an injured Telos takes out his rage on the people of Kandor, while the Earth-2 team endures another brutal casualty. And major plans are set in motion as Green Lantern and the others follow Deimos into the lost city of Skartaris to find Rip Hunter and the missing Time Masters, who could be their only hope of escape from this apocalypse for Infinite Earths!

Convergence Batman and the Outsiders 1
Convergence: Batman & the Outsiders #1
STARRING HEROES FROM CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS! After a year under the dome, the Outsiders have gone their separate ways, but when OMAC attacks, Batman must find out if they have what it takes to still be a team.

I never read the classic Outsiders book, but I’ve read everything from Winnick’s run on. That alone makes me excited.

Convergence New Teen Titans 1
Convergence: New Teen Titans #1
STARRING HEROES FROM CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS! Titans Together! The greatest Titans team of them all takes on the might of the Tangent Universe’s Doom Patrol!

Disco Nightwing! Disco!!! Nightwing!!!

Batman: Arkham Knight #3
Shipping twice in April! The Arkham Knight’s shadow spreads across the city as Batman digs deeper into the murders of villains – and it will soon put him on a collision course with the most dangerous enemy he’s ever faced! All this and more as the stunning prelude to the highly anticipated video game continues!

Batman 66 22
Batman ’66 #22
The guest team of writer Ray Fawkes (BATMAN ETERNAL, CONSTANTINE) and artist Jon Bogdanove (SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL) bring back Marsha, Queen of Diamonds, for another bejeweled bout with the Dynamic Duo. When she strikes at a gala ball for Gotham City’s elite, will even guests Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson fall under her spell?

Am I the only one that thinks of the Bond song “Diamonds Are Forever” whenever I think of Marsha, Queen of Diamonds? Anyone?

April  29th

Convergence #4
Inside Skartaris, the heroes of Earth-2 must face the only man who can stop them from finding the missing Time Travelers – but why would Travis Morgan, aka The Warlord, want to kill them?

Convergence Detective Comics 1
Convergence: Detective Comics #1
STARRING HEROES FROM CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS! Helena Wayne and Dick Grayson fight side by side in memory of Bruce Wayne as they decide who will become the next Batman.

Ah, I remember these two love birds. This could be fun! I enjoyed this interpretation of Helena Wayne way more than I ever enjoyed Helena Wayne of the New 52. WAY more!

Convergence Crime Syndicate 1
Convergence: Crime Syndicate #1
STARRING HEROES FROM CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS! The Crime Syndicate’s absolute control over their city of a bygone era comes crashing down when Superwoman is on death row while the rest of the team fights the One Million Universe’s Batman and Superman!

Injustice Year 3 Annual
Injustice: Gods Among Us Year Three Annual #1
The Year of Magic is over, and the stalemate between Superman’s regime and Batman’s resistance continues. But some mysteries remain to be explained, like the true start of John Constantine’s involvement. What secret role did Dr. Occult play? And what have the Titans been up to all this time?

Ah… Year Three comes to a close! This book is still one of the best things out there!
