Batman actor Armie Hammer dishes on the demise of ‘Justice League Mortal’

Kevin Smith was doing interviews for IMDb at the Sundance Film Festival this week. When he had the chance to speak to Armie Hammer, the geek in him had to ask about the canceled 2008 Justice League Mortal movie, where he was cast as Batman.

Hammer was excited to talk about the failed project, including his Batsuit. Most actors, including Ben Affleck, complain that you can’t hear anything once you put on the cowl. Hammer’s Batsuit was very “functional”, as he described it, and had microphones built into it so that he could hear what was going on around him. Hammer said they were able to have such a hi-tech Batsuit because the movie’s budget was $300 million.

Hammer was doing camera tests and rehearsals in Australia, where the movie was scheduled to shoot, for a couple of months. Then he and the cast got a call from Warner Bros. to come to a meeting with all of their scripts, notes, and materials from the movie. WB directed everyone to put their Justice League Mortal stuff in a bin and the movie was canceled due to tax breaks that didn’t go through. Hammer did manage to steal a CD that had the script on it though.
