Rumor: ‘The Batman’ may be in the Joker movie universe, not the DCEU

Last year we learned about a new brand of DC movies that Warner Bros. was working on. These would be separate from the DCEU and are rumored to be under the label “DC Dark” or “DC Black”. A Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix will be the first movie under that new brand to go into production when filming starts in New York City this fall, but a new rumor suggests Matt Reeves’ Batman movie could be part of it as well.

On the latest episode of The Superhero News Show, Forbes writer and co-host Mark Hughes said that he’s heard from several sources that he trusts that an idea has been floated around. If the Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix is successful, and since Matt Reeves is basically rebooting Batman with a younger version of the character in The Batman, the idea would be to just cross those two together in a future movie, rather than have The Batman be part of the DCEU.

Hughes stresses that this is just an idea right now and that nothing is set in stone, but if this turns out to be true I think that it’d make a lot of sense. Since The Batman isn’t going to star Ben Affleck and will focus on a younger Batman, it may make more sense to Warner Bros. to just start fresh in a brand new universe. Take a listen to the rumor in his own words at the 1:03:24 mark in the video below (headphones listeners beware of the 1:05:30 mark!).

What do you make of this rumor? Would you like to see The Batman be separate from the DCEU and possibly cross over with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker at some point? Or would you prefer for The Batman to be part of the DCEU with Jared Leto’s Joker? Let me know in the comments below.
