Shooting in IMAX is not an easy task to be sure. It takes special equipment and a lot of time to shoot, and it would be a shame to lose that when the film makes it way to home video.
Luckily, James Wan has confirmed that Aquaman does retain its IMAX aspect ration on the home video release. He took to his Twitter late Money night/early Tuesday morning to explain.
Aquaman is coming home!
Yes, it will retain the IMAX aspect ratio (meaning it will open up, top and bottom of frame, during those big visuals). This is my definitive version, and made sure it stayed that way for the home release. Looks gorgeous in UHD. This is the only cut.

And yes, he also confirmed there is no extended cut as this is the only cut of the film.
He also went on to confirm that the switches in aspect ration happen during cuts in the film, so it shouldn’t be too distracting.
It WILL switch between aspect ratios. But they happen in cuts, so you don’t really notice the switch.

We’re sure you’re probably watching Aquaman by this point if you’ve given up on physical media, but in case you haven’t, at least you know you have something to look forward to when you get your disc.
