The Batman receives a Gotham police companion series at HBO Max

The story of Matt Reeves version of Gotham City won’t end with The Batman as a spinoff series based on the GCPD is coming to HBO Max.

Warner Bros. Television announced on Friday that it will be launching a new GCPD series on HBO Max set in the same world as the upcoming The Batman film. The series will mark the first project under Mat Reeves new television development deal with Warner Bros. Terence Winter – creator of Boardwalk Empire – will serve as writer with Dylan Clark signed on as a producer.

“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream,” Matt Reeves said.

“Our collaboration with Warner Bros. and DC allows us to elaborate and grow fan connections across these powerful brands for years to come. This is Batman as most audiences have never seen before, and we know fans will want to spend more time in this new world inspired by the film,” Reilly said.

“We are so fortunate to have such great partners in Matt, Dylan, and Terry and unprecedented access to a wealth of IP from our partners at Warner Bros. and DC,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max.

As of right now there are still a lot of unknowns in regards to the series despite it already having a commitment from HBO Max. As of the announcement, the series is still untitled, and there is no word if there will be any appearances by Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon or Robert Pattinson as Batman.

While no dates were mentioned for a possible debut, we would peg this to come after the release of The Batman in Oct. 2021.
