Batman: Mask of the Phantasm coming to 4K Blu-ray

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Batman’s first animated film is getting a 4K remaster.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is set to release on Blu-Ray on September 12, and will include new cover art, a digital code for the movie, and a “Kevin Conroy: I Am the Knight” special feature. Little has been revealed about this special, but presumably, it will offer a new look at Kevin Conroy’s thoughts on his iconic Batman role, which he continued to play up until his unfortunate passing in 2022.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm was the first theatrically released film based on the hugely popular Batman: The Animated Series. It features Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamill as Joker, and Dana Delany as the enigmatic Andrea Beaumont, Bruce Wayne’s first love. Taking inspiration from both Batman: Year One and Batman: Year Two, it offers a glimpse into Batman’s origins and how he first handled the responsibility of being Batman. When the masked Phantasm begins killing criminals from one of Batman’s earliest cases, he must find a way to stop them. In the process, he discovers shocking truths about his past which challenge everything he knows about his mission. Praised by fans and critics alike, it was nominated for an Annie Award in the category of Best Animated Feature.
