Justice Society of America (2022) #5 review

My god…

Bat-fans? Is that you? How did you make it to my doomsday bunker?

After all these years…

What’s that? Months? It’s only been two months?

I see…

Well, is Geoff Johns at least done putting out JSA? No? One issue? Out today?

Welp. Okay then

Was it worth the wait?

No. Of course it wasn’t. What do you think this is, another comic that took a long time to come out with a title that I can’t think of? Please.
Remember how last issue we spent the entire thing fighting a giant battle with Per Degaton? Well, if you liked that, I have a surprise for you! That’s right, this issue is ANOTHER giant fight with Per Degaton! And this time, there’s even more Per Degaton!

Hope you like cool thrown at you in rapid succession without any substance to back them up! When I tell you well and truly that NOTHING happens here, they beat Per Degaton, (except things are still wrong, so we have to go figure things out still!) know that I mean it. It’s a mess. Maybe this is just my usual disdain for Johns’ surface level self-serving writing talking, but I really can’t stand another issue of nothing but plugs for Johns other work surrounding a bunch of nothing statements about how great things used to be.
I really wish I had something nice to say about this book, other than I really liked how Batman just told off Helena for trying to warn him of his death. That was fun.

No, really, that’s it.

There’s really not much else to say about the issue. Jerry Ordway kills it, as per usual, Mikel Janin is bland and only helped by Jordie Bellaire’s incredible coloring, the usual.

Don’t buy this.

Recommended if…

  • It’s not.
  • This book means nothing and will all be rebooted anyway.
  • For anyone to care about the status quo there must first be a believable chance of it existing for more than a few years.

Overall

Read World’s Finest.

Score: 4/10. I’m so bored. Send help
