Batman ’89 and Superman ’78 return this November in new comic minseries

It was only a matter of time, and now it’s been confirmed: Batman ’89 and Superman ’78 are back… again, with two brand new miniseries coming this November.

The wildly popular continuations of the wildly popular films proved to be huge hits when they came out a few years back, and while some hints were dropped here and there, I don’t recall seeing or hearing any confirmation that followups would be coming until now. While my own thoughts on ’89 were… let’s say “mixed,” I really love Joe Quinones’ style and will welcome any chance to go back to the world of Burton’s Gotham. So seeing that Quinones’ is back on board a new story by original writer Sam Hamm for Batman ’89: Echoes is intriguing, especially with the promise of not one but two villains who never appeared in the Burton or Schumacher films.

Conversely, I absolutely adored Superman ’78, and love just about anything that Robert Venditti does, so I’m already there on day one for this. Venditti is joined on Superman ’78: The Metal Curtain by artist Gavin Guidry, to tell a tale of Superman facing off against a powerful figure from Soviet Russia. Pretty much everything about the first series was pitch perfect to the Donner films, so I’m expecting nothing less here.
