‘Batgirl’ is moving forward with ‘Transformers: Bumblebee’ writer

The status of Batgirl has been up in the air since writer/director Joss Whedon exited the project earlier this year. We had heard that Batgirl wasn’t a priority and that Warner Bros. was going to focus on movies about the main members of the Justice League, but apparently that wasn’t the case.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has hired Christina Hodson to write Batgirl. Hodson wrote the upcoming Transformers movie Bumblebee, which is due out on December 21 — the same day as Aquaman. THR notes that Hodson has already worked on a project at Warner Bros. involving Batgirl, she was helping develop a Birds of Prey movie.

Roxane Gay, a New York Times best-selling author who has written Marvel comics before, offered to write Batgirl and there seemed to be interest on WB/DC’s end, but she recently took to Twitter to bash Justice League as well. Perhaps that didn’t help her chances.
