Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Superman film not dead yet

While the DC Universe is just getting ready to fire up with an all-new Superman, James Gunn is confirming other stories could still exist.

Speaking with io9, Gunn was asked about the lack of updates on Ta-Nahisi Coates and J.J. Abrams’ Superman movies. It seems that both are still possible in this new age of the DCU.

“Those two things are totally unrelated,” said Gunn. “That’s an exciting movie. I know that Chantal Nong, who is the executive on that project, is extremely excited about it. So if it comes in and it’s great, which I haven’t read the script, and if the timing is right, that could absolutely happen. That’s totally unrelated. It would be an Elseworlds tale like Joker.”

News of Coates’ Superman film first appeared back in 2021, but updates have been few and far between. With the news that Gunn is writing and directing Superman: Legacy, many considered the other projects dead.

Everything will rely on what the script is like once it comes in, but it seems that it is still a possibility.
