It’s a big day for Joker casting news! Hours after we learned that Robert De Niro was in talks to join the cast, we have news about The Joker’s mom. According to The Wrap, American Horror Story’s Frances Conroy is in talks to play The Joker’s mom “Penny” in Joker.
Oscar-winner Frances McDormand reportedly turned down the role of The Joker’s mom recently. If Conroy takes the role it wouldn’t be her first DC movie. She also appeared in the 2004 Catwoman movie with Halle Berry and voiced Martha Kent in the animated All-Star Superman.
Last week a rumor said that The Joker’s real name is Arthur Fleck. In the movie, he returns home to the city to live with his older (and possibly dying) mother, Penny. She is described as being “very attractive in her youth“, “obsessed with her former employer” and unable to believe “this is what her life has come to.”
