It seems that DC Studios is still looking at the possibility of an Elseworlds Superman film.

While all eyes have been on James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy, things have been fairly quiet in regards to J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ proposed Superman film.

News of Coates’ Superman film first appeared back in 2021, but updates have been few and far between. The last time we heard anything about it was in May of last year, and then things went quiet once again.

Answering questions from fans on Threads recently, Gunn was asked, “Is that Abrams Superman Elseworld project still in development?” His simple response was, “Yes.”

Everything will rely on what the script is like once it comes in, but it seems that it is still a possibility. No form of timeline has been shared as to when it may happen.

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
