Once again, it seems that James Gunn is not as done with casting on The Suicide Squad as he led everyone to believe. The newest report indicates that Benicio del Toro is in talks to play the villain.

According to The Geeks Worldwide, del Toro is currently in negotiations to play a villain that is currently codenamed “The Mayor.” Not much is known about him other than he is an “irascible old warrior who lives for war.” As to what DC character that may be is anyone’s guess at the moment.

This would also be another instance of Gunn pulling in someone he knows. Del Toro previously played The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy.

There have been numerous casting rumors for The Suicide Squad right now with Michael Rooker possibly playing King Shark and casting going on for the daughter of Idris Elba’s unknown character.

No matter what the story is, it certainly seems like things are very active over at The Suicide Squad. It would just be nice to see Gunn start confirming some of these numerous rumors. As of right now, the only confirmed castmember is David Dastmalchian for Polka-Dot Man.

Rumor wise it appears that  Daniela Melchior is a genderwapped Ratcatcher, and John Cena may be playing Peacemaker.

As for returning cast from 2016’s Suicide Squad include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and possibly Joel Kinnaman as Flagg.

The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
